Description: Nielsen Media Research, Inc., is a longtime corporate presence in Pinellas County. It opened its main headquarters in Dunedin in 1972, where it remained for three decades. As it grew to nearly 1,000 employees, operations spilled over into satellite offices across north Pinellas County. By 2001, with further workforce expansion on the horizon, the company decided to consolidate its operations on a single campus. Although it wished to remain in Pinellas County, the lack of affordable vacant land made the prospect difficult, and the company considered relocating to the Atlanta region.

The Pinellas County Economic Development Department worked closely with Nielsen, putting together a package of local and state incentives to offset the high cost of land. The company agreed to relocate to a 39 acre campus in the Brooker Creek Corporate Center in Oldsmar. In order to receive the incentives, it agreed to create 600 new jobs, with at least half paying significantly above the countywide average wage.

The first phase of the company's new, state-of-the-art Global Technology and Information Center opened in 2003. The $80.2 million, 475,000 square-foot facility will ultimately accommodate 1,600 employees in one central location.
