Ceridian Campus

Location: 3201 - 34th Street South, St. Petersburg

Project Type: Rehabilitation/reuse

Description: ABR Information Services, Inc., had been based in Palm Harbor since 1987. Ten years later, with 900 employees, the rapidly expanding company had outgrown its available space. The owners wanted to stay in Pinellas County, where they had found a large pool of skilled workers and had strong relationships with educational institutions and other businesses.

The company purchased an office complex that had been occupied by Florida Power Corporation since 1971. It spent two years and $20 million rehabilitating the 51 acre campus, which provided enough room for an eventual 1,850 employees. Located on the edge of St. Petersburg's Challenge Area, the project offered redevelopment and job creation in a part of the city where both were critically needed. The company received a Qualified Targeted Industry tax refund to assist with the relocation, and in exchange, committed to creating 1,050 new jobs.

In 2000, shortly before the move, ABR was purchased by Minneapolis-based Ceridian Benefits Services. The new owners decided to proceed with the relocation, and have remained committed to the local community. The Ceridian campus, as it is now known, has helped spur further redevelopment and business growth in the area.
